(Really) Wide Leg

Three things about silk pants: 1) constant wrinkles 2) the wind hates silk and 3) constantly worried about stains. I have banned myself from eating anything greasy today along with anything that involves ketchup or wine or blood. (Blood is such a pain to get out of silk.) It's that or eat with my pants off, which I typically wait until 5 pm to do that.

I found these pants at Anthro for $20 (down from $198. It's almost like they paid me to take them off their hands) and I bought them on a whim. The very next day I saw this image on Pinterest and was so glad I took a risk on my wide leg maxi silky sultan pants. I really don't know what to call these things.

(Excuse the weird pouts. Apparently when it's cold I make 'sexy come hither/I just ate a lemon' face.)

Merry Christmas Eve Eve

I lose all track of time when it's the holidays. For the last four days I've thought it was Friday. Yesterday a lady in the shop said "isn't it Christmas Eve today?" I couldn't remember so we both stared at each other for a good and awkward 30 seconds. She left before I looked at a calendar, but the good news is that today is Friday and tomorrow is Christmas Eve. And the day after that is Christmas. With this impressive rhetoric, I could write pop songs for ambitious young girls.*

We're hitting the sky to fly home for Christmas tonight. Apparently there will be snow. Snow, family and presents -- these are my few of my favorite things.

*Yes that was a Rebecca Black reference. Merry Christmas to you.

I woke up today at 5 am for no apparent reason but I did have this outfit in mind and I remembered to pay a bill on time. Thanks subconscious but 5 am is a nasty time to wake someone up and tell them about an outfit.

I bought this sweater (yes, from myself, I'm that good of a salesman) this weekend and I've already worn it 3 times since. It's hard to go wrong with a neutral sweater. In other words, you won't mind if I wear this again this week will you? I didn't think so.

(Why yes, this is the skirt from the Fossil lookbook. Good catch there, hawk eyes.)

Yesterday called for flowy. Until I realized it was blowing 30 mph winds and then yesterday called for pants. But once an outfit happens, it happens. There is not turning back. Also, yesterday was laundry day so really there was no turning back.

If you hear me say one thing, it is this: buy a nice cream, white or ivory blouse that goes with everything. Do you hear me? I've worn this guy countless of times. It's soft, transitional, remixable. He listens to my problems, doesn't judge me when I eat a whole box of cookies. We're practically best friends. Moral of that weird story: a neutral blouse goes a long way.

My mother bought me this skirt. Mainly because it was a buy one, get one half-off deal and she had an odd number. BUT I'm also going to say that it's because she loves me and because I looked it longingly while she shopped for herself and then I threw myself on the ground until she agreed. Old tricks still work my friends.

I typically don't push items ever but this might be the best skirt in the world. It's long enough so I can bend over if necessary, it doesn't give me a muffin top, it has animal print -- the list goes on. Best skirt ever.

This is the little shirt that could. It's probably one of my favorite shirts I own. Which basically means if there was a fire, I'd grab my husband, dog... and then this top. Family first, then clothes. Unless they all got out before me, then clothes first. Also, how did they get out before me? That seems so wrong.

I just want you guys to know that I'm writing this at 6 am. Not my best time, possibly my weirdest time now that I think about it. I just couldn't sleep so I thought I'd write a post. And I'm in that weird state of awake but still kind of asleep. You know when you are dreaming in a delirious/half awake state and you come up with what you think at the time is the best ideas ever? You tell yourself to remember that for when you really wake up. And then when you think back on them you are like "what? why would I want a refrigerator in my car?!" I'm pretty sure this is how I'll look back on this post.

Back to the shirt. Polka dots are remixing gold. Don't believe me? Nine outfits for your remixing pleasure.

Saturday Best

{Shop: Similar Dress, Heels, Purse, Watch (c/o Fossil)}

Saturday's are always tricky for me. What I want to does not involve getting dressed. I simply do not need real clothes on to go get coffee, or go to the grocery store or to lay around and watch 'Teen Mom' all day. But today we ended up in Austin for my friends' vintage pop-up shop. This meant only one thing: I had to get dressed. Even worse -- I had to take a shower. Saturday's should not involve effort, but for them I make this sacrifice.

I've already made a promise with all of the cast members of Teen Mom to catch up next weekend. I'll wear my Saturday best --a ratty t-shirt and running shorts. (That I don't actually wear to run in so I shall call them my 'lazy-ass shorts'. There that's better.)

When I say I depend on accessories to make an outfit work, I'm not kidding. Take this scarf for example. I would have never paired this with my emerald green dress but lo and behold in the fabric is pink and green. This in my mind says that those two colors must go together. So here we are. Hot pink + green. Who knew?

(Technically you could argue that nature presents this color combination as well.  Flowers are hot pink and green but I'm a style blogger not a botanist. Geez.)

Seventies

{Shop: Top,Similar JeansNecklace}

If I had to live in one era it would probably be the 1970s. Or the 1920s, but I had to pick one and the other goes best with my post today, so 70s it is.  There is something about these wide leg jeans that make me feel carefree and bohemian. Although I'll never give up skinny jeans (and I mean never: I will wear them till I die even if I am the only 90 year old wearing them. I'll be a hot 90 year old.) they are a nice break from the norm.

Speaking of a break from the norm, we are off on a road trip to visit the in-laws. And lucky for B, I just downloaded all of my favorite songs from high school. At least one of us will be having a good time.

The first question I asked Bryan was "have I blogged this outfit before?" We both couldn't remember so I decided that I haven't. I realize that I have a visual database of outfits that I can scroll through to see if I've blogged this outfit before, but that would require effort and time. You see, I'm lazy. Effort is my nemesis. (But really...have I worn this outfit before?)

I feel very "ladies who lunch" in this outfit. Technically I am a lady (technically) and I did eat lunch today. Even if it consisted of peanut butter and jelly. It might have been alone and it might not have been white wine and a salad, but there is no shame in a PBJ -- or raw cookie dough eaten off a spoon. Or taking gummy vitamins for adults. There is no shame in that.

Almost Vintage

I feel a bit like bleubird vintage today. Maybe it's the hair, the three adorable kids I have with me or the fact that I'm wearing a might-be vintage dress that my mother kindly hemmed for me. (She's cheap too, she let me pay in hugs and hand-me-downs.) Either way, I like it.

When I first started reading style blogs, I was fascinated -- literally fascinated-- with the way bloggers would wear thrifted or vintage items without looking like Mildred, the previous owner. And while I had thrifted before, I was always on the lookout for ironic t-shirts to wear to my college class, as to look like I didn't care, but I did, but I didn't. All the while I had no idea there were beautiful vintage dresses, blouses, skirts, shoes just waiting to be worn.

I've never thought of my style as vintage, maybe a few pieces here or there could pass but let's be honest -- current trends make my heart double beat. But I've always loved the way some girls can make a vintage dress look so modern and beautiful. And while I loved and envied their style, I've always thought that's just not my style.

Not to get all blogmotional on you, but thinking back just two years ago I would have never picked up this dress. I would have never thought "take some inches off the bottom, grab a wide belt and we've got ourselves an outfit." And yet a few weeks ago, I picked this dress up and knew immediately how to wear it. More often than not I still feel like the girl who looks longingly onto blogs, thinking "can I do that?" So as a reader of style blogs, I say thank you to all the girls who inspire me and so many others to try something new. Turns out that you can teach an old blog new tricks.

Lady in Pink

[NOTE: This is a repost. Blogger deleted this original post. Jerk.]

Growing up, I wasn't a pink kind of girl. Not that it's bad to be that girl, but it just wasn't me. I was more tomboy than girly girl. I always felt pressure to pick pink or purple as my favorite color since I was a girl (oh the pressures of 3rd grade) when really my favorite color was red or blue. I would have rather played outside in the dirt, or ride my bike all of the neighborhood instead of staying indoors doing normal things that little girls do. I also never had a sequined cell phone cover that spelled out "baby girl" which on one hand makes me proud and on the other makes me a bit sad.

But at age 26, I can honestly say I'm one of them now. I am a pink kind of girl.

You want me to wear pink pants and a matching necklace? Done. You want me to bedazzle a cell phone cover with only pink sparkles? I'm already on it.

Good News, Bad News

I feel like if today could talk it would have asked me "would you like the good news first or the bad?" I, being a pessimist, would have said "the good news first", because I could sit in bad news for days. "Good news -- it's only Tuesday, so there is plenty of time to get everything on your to-do list done. Bad news -- it's only Tuesday, so you have to get everything on your to-do list done. Also, there are dishes in the sink. Tough break kid."

But you know what isn't bad news? Pizza for dinner. Dishes in the sink, bad. Pizza in my mouth, good. And tomorrow is Wednesday. And I like my outfit. And my purse is hot pink. Things are already looking up and it's only Tuesday.
